Starts in
Merzouga

Merzouga

Sleeping in the Sahara is the dream of many travellers to Morocco, and the dunes of Erg Chebbi near Merzouga are the best place to live it. Rising up to 150 metres high, these golden dunes change colour all day, from orange at sunrise to deep red at sunset. On this two-day trip you meet your camel guide at the edge of the dunes in the late afternoon and ride for about an hour and a half into the sand, stopping on a ridge to watch the sun go down. You arrive at a Berber camp hidden between the dunes, with comfortable tents, real beds and private bathrooms. Dinner is a tajine around the fire, followed by drumming and songs under a sky full of stars, with no light pollution for miles. Early the next morning you climb a dune for sunrise, then ride back to Merzouga for breakfast and a shower. Optional extras include sandboarding and a quad bike ride.
