Overview
- Duration
- 2 days
- Starts in
- Merzouga
- Ends in
- Merzouga
This is the most authentic way to spend a night in the Erg Chebbi. The camp is run by a Berber family from Merzouga who have lived around the dunes for generations. After a camel ride at sunset, you are welcomed into a traditional tent of woven goat and camel hair. You can help prepare dinner: knead the dough for the madfouna, the stuffed Berber bread baked in the sand, and watch the tagine cook slowly on the coals. Over dinner the family shares stories of nomad life, a few words of Tamazight and their songs, played on drums around the fire. A simple, warm and human experience of the Sahara.
