The Erg Chebbi is more than sand. This full-day 4x4 tour with a local driver-guide shows you the whole region around the dunes. You visit Khamlia, a village of former slaves from West Africa where musicians play Gnawa music for visitors, and stop at a nomad family's tent for tea. The tour crosses the black volcanic desert to the abandoned lead mines of Mfis and the fossil quarries, and on market days you visit the busy souk and old ksour of Rissani, the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty. If there has been rain, you also see flamingos on the lake of Dayet Srji. Lunch is in a local restaurant, often a Berber pizza.
