If camels are too slow for you, explore the Sahara by quad. After a short safety briefing and a few minutes to practise on flat sand, you follow your guide into the Erg Chebbi on an automatic ATV. The route climbs and drops over the dunes at a speed adapted to your level, crosses open sand where you can go faster and stops on a high dune for photos over the sea of sand. You can choose 1 hour for a taste of the dunes, or 2 hours to go deeper and reach the far side of the erg. Late afternoon is the best time, when the light is golden and the sand cooler.
