With four days, the road from Marrakech to Fes becomes one of the finest journeys in Morocco. You sleep the first night at Ait Ben Haddou, so you can see the ksar at sunset and sunrise without the crowds. Day two follows the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs through Ouarzazate, Skoura and the Valley of Roses to the Dades valley. Day three crosses the Todra Gorge to Merzouga for a camel ride and a night in a desert camp. On the last day you drive north through the Ziz valley, Midelt and the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, where Barbary macaques live, arriving in Fes in the evening.

    Day 1: Marrakech to Ait Ben Haddou

    Over the Tizi n'Tichka pass with stops in Berber villages and at Telouet. Sunset over the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou. Night at Ait Ben Haddou.

    Day 2: Road of a Thousand Kasbahs

    Ouarzazate, the palm grove of Skoura and the Valley of Roses to the Dades valley and its rock formations. Night in the Dades valley.

    Day 3: Todra Gorge to Merzouga

    Walk in the Todra Gorge, then Tinghir and Erfoud to Merzouga. Camel ride into the dunes at sunset and night in a desert camp.

    Day 4: Merzouga to Fes

    Sunrise over Erg Chebbi, then north through the Ziz valley, Midelt and the cedar forests of Azrou and Ifrane to Fes.
