This one-way tour is the classic way to travel between Morocco's two great imperial cities while seeing the Sahara on the way. On the first day you cross the High Atlas by the Tizi n'Tichka pass, visit the UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou and follow the road of a thousand kasbahs through Ouarzazate and the Valley of Roses to the Dades Valley. The second day takes you through the dramatic red cliffs of the Todra Gorge and across the desert plains to Merzouga, where a camel caravan carries you into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi for sunset. You sleep in a desert camp, with dinner and music around the fire under a sky full of stars. Early on the third day you watch the sunrise over the dunes, then drive north through the Ziz Valley, the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas and the alpine town of Ifrane to arrive in Fes in the evening.     Day 1: Marrakech to the Dades Valley via Ait Ben Haddou

    Morning pick-up in Marrakech and drive over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, with stops for photos in the Atlas. Visit the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou with a local guide, then continue through Ouarzazate, the palm groves of Skoura and the Valley of Roses to the Dades Valley. Dinner and night in a hotel or riad with views over the gorge.

    Day 2: Todra Gorge and camel ride into the Merzouga dunes

    After breakfast, drive to Tinghir and walk between the towering walls of the Todra Gorge. Continue through desert villages to Merzouga, at the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes. In the late afternoon, ride a camel into the dunes to watch the sunset, then reach your desert camp for dinner, Berber music and a night under the stars.

    Day 3: Sunrise in the Sahara and the road to Fes

    Wake up early to watch the sunrise from the dunes, then ride back to Merzouga for breakfast. Drive north through the Ziz Valley and its palm groves, the town of Midelt and the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, with a stop in Ifrane, the 'Switzerland of Morocco'. Arrive in Fes in the evening and drop-off at your hotel or riad.
