This two-day trek is the best way to discover the High Atlas at walking pace without needing mountain experience. From Imlil, at the foot of Jebel Toubkal, a licensed mountain guide leads you along mule tracks through walnut groves and terraced fields, over a pass and down into quieter valleys where few visitors go. A mule carries your overnight bag, so you only walk with a light daypack. You spend the night in a Berber village guesthouse or family home: simple, clean rooms, a hot shower, and dinner cooked on the spot, followed by tea on the roof under a sky full of stars. On the second day you continue through other villages and across high pastures with views of the Toubkal massif, before walking back down to Imlil, where your driver takes you back to Marrakech. Expect around five to six hours of walking each day, on good paths. Honest mountain hospitality, fresh air and real silence: the perfect contrast with the souks of Marrakech.
