Fes Pottery & Zellij Mosaic Workshop with Master Craftsmen

Fes has been a city of craftsmen for more than a thousand years, and its blue-and-white pottery and zellij mosaics decorate palaces, fountains and mosques across Morocco. On this half-day experience you visit a traditional pottery cooperative on the edge of the medina, where the whole process happens under one roof. You watch potters shape the clay of the Fes region on kick wheels, painters decorate plates and bowls freehand with fine brushes, and the kilns that fire them. In the zellij workshop, craftsmen cut glazed tiles by hand with a sharp hammer into hundreds of small geometric pieces, which are then assembled face down like a puzzle. With the help of a master craftsman, you then try it yourself: you paint your own small dish or assemble a small zellij pattern to take home as a souvenir. The workshop ends with mint tea, and your guide explains the meaning of the patterns and how to recognise authentic work in the souks. A creative and hands-on way to understand Fes.
