With three days, a desert trip from Fes stops being a race. Day one crosses the Middle Atlas by Ifrane and the cedar forests, then follows the Ziz valley to Merzouga, where you spend the night in a hotel facing the dunes. Day two is all about the Sahara: a 4x4 tour around Erg Chebbi to the black volcanic desert, a nomad family, the village of Khamlia and its Gnawa musicians, and the seasonal lake of Dayet Srji. At sunset a camel carries you to a desert camp for dinner, drums and a night under the stars. On day three you watch the sunrise and drive back to Fes through the Ziz gorges and the Middle Atlas.
