Northern Morocco is a different world from the desert south: green mountains, white and blue towns and a strong Andalusian heritage facing Spain across the sea. This five-day tour starts in Fes and ends in Tangier, perfect if you continue by ferry or fly home from the north. You spend two nights in Chefchaouen, the blue city of the Rif, with time to explore its lanes and to hike to the Akchour waterfalls and God's Bridge, a natural rock arch above the river. Next comes Tetouan, whose UNESCO-listed medina of whitewashed houses was shaped by refugees from Granada and is known for its crafts. Along the Atlantic, the small town of Asilah charms with its ramparts and murals painted by artists each summer. The tour ends in Tangier, the city of writers and painters, with a walk through the kasbah and medina and a sunset at Cap Spartel, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean. Five days of mountains, sea and history at a gentle pace.

    Day 1: Fes to Chefchaouen

    Morning pick-up in Fes and drive north through olive groves and the hills of the Rif, about three and a half hours. Afternoon walk through the blue medina with a local guide, and sunset from the Spanish Mosque above the town. Dinner and night in a riad in Chefchaouen.

    Day 2: Akchour waterfalls and God's Bridge

    Drive 45 minutes to Akchour, in Talassemtane National Park. Walk along the river to the waterfalls and up to God's Bridge, a natural rock arch, choosing the distance that suits you. Picnic or lunch by the river, then return to Chefchaouen for a free evening.

    Day 3: Chefchaouen to Tetouan

    Drive to Tetouan, at the foot of the Rif near the Mediterranean. Explore its white medina, listed by UNESCO, with its craftsmen's quarters, the royal palace square and the old Jewish quarter. Visit the school of traditional arts if open. Dinner and night in Tetouan.

    Day 4: Asilah and the Atlantic coast to Tangier

    Cross to the Atlantic coast and visit Asilah, a small town of whitewashed houses inside Portuguese ramparts, decorated with murals. Lunch of fresh fish by the sea, then continue to Tangier. Evening walk in the Petit Socco and dinner in Tangier.

    Day 5: Tangier, Cap Spartel and the Caves of Hercules

    Morning walk through the kasbah of Tangier, its museum and the medina, with views over the Strait of Gibraltar from Café Hafa. Drive west to Cap Spartel and the Caves of Hercules. End of the tour in Tangier in the afternoon, at your hotel, the port or the airport.

Where does the tour end?

In Tangier: at your hotel, the ferry port to Spain or Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport.

Is the Akchour hike difficult?

You choose: the first waterfalls are about one hour of easy walking; God's Bridge takes about three to four hours return with some climbs.

Can we start in Tangier and end in Fes?

When is the best time?

April to June and September to October. Summers are warm on the coast but busy; winters can be rainy in the Rif.
