South of Casablanca, the Atlantic coast hides two gems that most visitors miss. El Jadida, once the Portuguese fortress of Mazagan, is listed by UNESCO for its star-shaped ramparts and its Portuguese Cistern, a vaulted underground hall where a thin layer of water reflects the columns and the light from a single opening in the roof. You walk on the ramparts above the ocean, through the quiet lanes of the old city and past the Manueline church. Then the road follows the coast to Oualidia, a peaceful lagoon protected from the waves, famous across Morocco for its oysters. Lunch here is a treat: oysters, grilled fish and seafood at a terrace by the water. In the afternoon you can walk on the beach, take a short boat ride on the lagoon or simply relax before the drive back to Casablanca. A relaxed day of history, sea air and the best seafood of the coast.

Itinerary

    Day 1: El Jadida and Oualidia

    Pick-up in Casablanca at 8:30 and 1.5-hour drive to El Jadida. Visit the Portuguese City, its cistern and ramparts. Continue along the coast to Oualidia (1 hour) for a seafood lunch by the lagoon. Free time on the beach or an optional boat ride. Return to Casablanca around 6 pm.
