The medina of Marrakech is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most fascinating old towns in the world, but its maze of lanes can be overwhelming on your own. On this half-day walking tour, a licensed local guide takes you straight to the places that matter and tells the stories behind them. You start at the Koutoubia Mosque, the city's landmark minaret, then step into Jemaa el-Fnaa, the great square that changes character from morning to night. From there you dive into the souks: the dyers' quarter with its skeins of coloured wool, the metalworkers hammering lanterns, the spice square of Rahba Kedima and the leather and slipper stalls. Along the way you visit a historic monument such as the Ben Youssef Madrasa or the Bahia Palace, depending on opening times, and stop for a glass of fresh mint tea. Your guide also shares practical tips: how to find your way back, how to bargain politely and where locals really eat. It's the ideal first morning in Marrakech.
