Essaouira Day Trip from Marrakech: Atlantic Port, Medina & Argan Cooperative

After the energy of Marrakech, Essaouira feels like a breath of fresh air. This day trip takes you west across the plains to the Atlantic, to a town of white walls and blue shutters that artists and musicians have loved since the 1960s. On the way you stop at a women's argan cooperative to see how the precious oil is made by hand, and if you are lucky you will see goats perched in the argan trees. In Essaouira you have free time to explore at your own pace: the busy fishing port with its blue boats and the fish auction, the Skala de la Ville ramparts with their bronze cannons, used as a set for Game of Thrones, the souks of thuya wood, silver and spices, and the long sandy beach. Lunch is a highlight: pick your fish and seafood at the grills by the port and have them cooked on the spot. You return to Marrakech in the evening, relaxed and full of sea air.
