Agafay Desert Sunset, Camel Ride & Dinner from Marrakech

You don't need to drive for days to feel the desert. The Agafay is a wide stone desert of golden hills just 40 minutes from Marrakech, with the snowy peaks of the High Atlas on the horizon. This half-day trip takes you there in the afternoon, when the light softens and the hills glow. On arrival at a desert camp you're welcomed with mint tea, then set off on a camel ride of about half an hour through the dunes and valleys. Back at camp, you have time to take photos, relax on the cushions or simply watch the sun go down behind the hills. As night falls, the lanterns are lit and dinner is served: a Moroccan meal of salads, tagine and fruit, often with live music around the fire. The sky in Agafay is dark enough to see many stars on clear nights. You are back in Marrakech in the late evening.
