This 8-day itinerary is perfect if you want to fly in and out of Marrakech and see the desert without rushing. You spend the first two days in Marrakech, with a guided tour and a free day for gardens, hammam and souks. The desert loop goes out by the Tizi n'Tichka with a night at Ait Ben Haddou, then the Dades valley, the Todra Gorge and a camel trek to a camp in the Merzouga dunes. The return follows the quiet southern road through the Draa valley to Ouarzazate, then back over the Atlas to Marrakech. On the last day you drive to Essaouira for the sea air, with the option to end there.

    Todra Gorge walk, then the Tafilalet oases to Merzouga. Camel trek at sunset and night in a desert camp.

    Day 6: Merzouga to Ouarzazate

    Sunrise, Khamlia, then Alnif and the Draa valley to Ouarzazate. Night in Ouarzazate.

    Day 7: Ouarzazate to Marrakech

    Film studios or Taourirt kasbah, then over the Atlas to Marrakech. Night in Marrakech.

    Day 8: Essaouira

    Drive through the argan forest to Essaouira. Port, ramparts and medina. Back to Marrakech or drop-off in Essaouira.
