Just an hour south of Fez, the Middle Atlas is a different Morocco: cool air, red-roofed chalets, lakes and some of the largest cedar forests in the world. This private day trip starts in Ifrane, built in the 1930s in an alpine style and often called the Switzerland of Morocco, with its gardens and famous stone lion. You continue to the cedar forest near Azrou, where troops of wild Barbary macaques live among trees that can be hundreds of years old. After lunch in Azrou, known for its Berber carpets and cedar crafts, you can visit the springs of Ain Vittel or a lake such as Dayet Aoua before returning to Fez.

Can we feed the monkeys?
