Not every Moroccan journey needs the desert. This 8-day loop follows the wild Atlantic coast south of Casablanca. You visit the Portuguese city of El Jadida and its underground cistern, then the oyster lagoon of Oualidia. Two nights in Essaouira give you time to enjoy its blue fishing boats, sea ramparts and relaxed medina. The coastal road continues past argan forests and surf beaches to Agadir, before you head inland to Taroudant, the 'Little Marrakech' with its ochre walls. Crossing the High Atlas by the Tizi n'Test pass, you reach Marrakech for two nights before returning to Casablanca. Sea air, seafood and slow travel.

    Day 1: Casablanca, El Jadida and Oualidia

    Pick-up in Casablanca and drive to El Jadida to visit the Portuguese cistern and ramparts. Continue to the lagoon of Oualidia for oysters and sunset. Night in Oualidia.

    Day 2: Oualidia to Essaouira

    Drive along the coast via Safi, known for its pottery, to Essaouira. Afternoon walk on the ramparts and the port. Night in Essaouira.

    Explore the medina, the Mellah and the thuya wood workshops, relax on the beach or try a cooking class. Night in Essaouira.

    Drive through the orange groves of the Souss valley to Taroudant. Calèche ride around the ramparts and walk in the souks. Night in Taroudant.

    Spectacular mountain road over the High Atlas, with a stop at the Tinmel mosque. Arrival in Marrakech in the afternoon. Night in Marrakech.

    Licensed guide for the Koutoubia, Bahia Palace, Majorelle Garden and the souks. Evening on Jemaa el-Fna. Night in Marrakech.
