This 7-day tour is the classic way to see the Sahara when you land in Casablanca. You drive south to Marrakech, then cross the High Atlas by the Tizi n'Tichka pass to Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate. The road follows the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to the Dades valley and the Todra Gorge before reaching Merzouga, where you ride a camel into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi for a night in a desert camp. After sunrise you head north through the Ziz valley, Midelt and the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas to Fes, where you spend a full day in the medieval medina before returning to Casablanca via Meknes and Rabat.

    Day 1: Casablanca to Marrakech

    Pick-up in Casablanca and drive to Marrakech (3 hours). Afternoon in the Jemaa el-Fna square and the souks. Night in Marrakech.

    Day 2: Over the High Atlas to Ouarzazate

    Cross the Tizi n'Tichka pass, visit the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou and the Taourirt kasbah in Ouarzazate. Night in Ouarzazate.

    Day 3: Valley of Roses and Todra Gorge

    Drive through Skoura, the Valley of Roses and the Dades valley to the Todra Gorge for a walk between its 300-metre cliffs. Night near Tinghir.

    Day 4: Into the Sahara

    Continue through Erfoud and Rissani to Merzouga. In the afternoon, camel ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes for sunset and a night in a desert camp.

    Day 5: Merzouga to Fes

    Sunrise on the dunes, then a long scenic drive north through the Ziz valley, Midelt, Azrou and Ifrane to Fes. Night in Fes.

    Day 6: Guided day in Fes

    Full day with a licensed guide: the Bou Inania madrasa, the Chouara tanneries, the souks and the Royal Palace gates.

  7. 7

    Day 7: Fes to Casablanca

    Drive back via Meknes and Rabat, with stops on the way. Drop-off at your hotel or Casablanca airport.
